Friday, June 15, 2007 Minutes
In attendance: Rich Corcoran, Janet Mellon, Chuck Motes, John Myers, Tony Palmieri, Sue Saucier, Victoria Triano
File of Life Program
- First batch of 1,000 are getting into circulation
- Great success and well received at Senior Fair last month
- Thanks to United Way, YMCA, and Calvanese Foundation for funding first batch. Cost comes out to approx. $1.50 per pouch.
- Janet will talk to Southington Housing about their model
- Committee brainstormed who should get these File of Life pouches: Jan’s office, Calendar House, Susan’s grandparent program, VNA, Center for Healthy Aging, Health Department, Police Department, Library, Spring Lake Village, United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Bread for Life, Town Hall, YMCA.
- John and Rich will work on distribution
- Rich will continue discussion on future funding with Citi Bank
Update of Website
- Changes have been made - we're ready to go public.
- John will represent group at Town Council meeting on June 25th
- We will follow up with press after Town Council Meeting
- Many thanks to Charlie Cocuzza and Kristin Parker from Omega Solutions for their support of the website.
- Janet and her staff will soon be able to make changes additions to website.
Disaster Preparedness
- Chuck updated committee on Town's recent initiative to review and update the Town's disaster preparedness plans. This is an annual process.
- Chuck reported that a training program for local citizens will take place on June 20th. Other trainings will follow.
- Committee all agreed to have disaster preparedness awareness month same time that citizens are scheduled to check batteries when clocks are moved an hour back and forward.
- Committee will work on plans at September meeting
Fall initiatives
- Focus will be getting info about SouthingtonCARES outs to community
- Dinner with the Docs - Rich Corcoran will coordinate.
- Letter to service clubs will go out during the summer.
- Senior luncheon at the Y in the fall.
- Develop branding for SouthingtonCARES
- John will work with local graphics/designer
- T-shirts to follow
Hurricane Season
- Has begun - committee on call in case of a disaster.

- September TBA – 8:30 at the YMCA
Mission Statement
SouthingtonCARES is a community-based action-oriented task force of members representing agencies, businesses, town officials and individuals
who are dedicated to helping victims of disaster as well as local social service needs.
